Visiting the Museum in 1967
The colour film documents Ella Grainger’s visit to the Grainger Museum in 1967, made on Super 8 film by the Grainger Museum Curator, Robert Hyner. In the film, Ella (wearing a yellow shirt) visits the Museum in the company of Robert Hughes, composer, and his wife. The courtyard in this period was a garden, featuring a large Kurrajong tree.
Experimental composer Keith Humble can be seen in the footage walking out of the Museum after Ella, with composer Ian Bonighton (in a white shirt). Humble established a pioneering Electronic Music Studio in the Grainger Museum in 1966, when he was Senior Lecturer at the Melbourne Conservatorium. The footage includes the making of a film of the interior of the Grainger Museum by the BBC.
