The Future of NAIDOC
Wemba Wemba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung artist Maree Clarke shares her vision for future NAIDOC Week celebrations in Melbourne, Victoria, below.
"[M]any years ago I had this dream of all the different language groups having a banner."
"To wander along. And then giving out... hundreds of sets of clap sticks for people to... do a little bit of drumming on."
"Or boomerangs to clap.... it would just be like a celebration. One day I'm going to do that. [I've] got to do that before I leave this space."
"If not, one of the nephews... or nieces will have to do that."
"That'll be fun. And... when... you're stopped... just rap on … the boomerangs and the clap sticks. That would be awesome."
"[You could] get [representatives from] the five clans of the Kulin Nation to... lead [the march]".
"[It would be] the five clans leading people on to Country... then the 38 tribes coming in to the city."
