On the Home Front
The Busy Bees Album is a beautifully put together scrapbook that highlights the dedicated volunteer work of the women at Swallow & Ariell biscuit factory during World War I, and is part of our Swallow & Ariell Collection. These ‘Busy Bees’ sewed clothes, knitted socks, cooked food and raised money through the Australian Red Cross and the Australian Comforts Fund. This heartfelt memento of their war work demonstrates the generous and untiring work that was happening on the home front, and complements our Australian Red Cross Collection.
