Description
Wood, plastic, string, tape, metal, masonite
This ‘reed box’ is designed somewhat like a giant
mechanically-operated mouth organ. A large strip of
paper (not present), like a pianola roll with holes cut at
calculated points, was to be rolled steadily over the
multi-coloured plastic fins, below which sit an array of
accordion reeds tuned micro-tonally to approximate the
effect of gliding tones when adjacent reeds are played.
The machine was to be operated with a vacuum cleaner
providing the necessary suction to draw air through the
holes in the paper roll and then through the reeds.
