Sandstone
Sandstone is a sedimentary rock of fragmental structure, the grains of the fragments are made of quartz, but sometimes of calcareous or argillaceous character. The best kind of sandstone is composed of sharp clean grains of quartz cemented together with a siliceous matrix. Sandstone is considered to be the most useful stone for building purposes, not only because it easy to use but is also durable if of good quality. It resembles plain walling and is well suited for moulded and carved work.
Sanstone is found in various states in Australia, such as New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland. Sandstones from Tasmania, Sydney and Victoria were used in the development of the campus.
