The annual letter to Rome for 1729 reported that the feast of St Francis Xavier was observed during an entire octave ‘during which not only did the King’s music resound in the litanies, which are usually sung at 4.00 pm, but the high altar shone with numerous rows of candles. The Princess loaned relics of the saint from her collection’. (‘Sanctus tamen Indiarum Apostolus integram Octavam habuit peculiarem, quâ non tantùm in Litaniis, horâ quartâ pomeridianâ decantari solitis Musica Regia resonabat, verùm et multiplici cerorum ordine Ara Major relucebat; porrectis etiam pio venerantium osculo Sacris Divi hujus Reliquiis quas è suo Lipsanophyllario deprompsit Serenissima Nostra Xaveriophila’).
