The original performance of this work is mentioned in the Dresden Diarium Missionis for 1723 where on 9.12.1723 it is noted: ‘Devotio Xaveriana ut alias. Hora quarta Litanias novas produxit Dominus Zelenka cum Regiis Musicis desuper Benedictio; et sic terminata post meridiem devotio’. (Xaverian devotion as at other times. At 4 o’clock Zelenka produced new litanies with the royal musicians, followed by Benediction).
The annual letter to Rome for 1723 reported that Maria Josepha’s special devotion to St Francis Xavier made the feast of St Francis Xavier more august in that year as she had 33 one-pound candles placed on the altar so that they might burn during the two Sung Masses, Vespers and litanies of the saint, which were sung by the royal musicians throughout the octave at 4.00 pm.

In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are listed under the heading Litaniae S. F. Xaver: No. 1 (III/Z/17/5).
