Remarks
Bound score copy of Kyrie, Gloria, Credo. Parts are missing in Dresden.
Label on cover (in pencil): Messa; Jomelli.
Title page (Baldan’s hand): Messa | a quattro voci | con Strum[en]ti | del Sigr Nicolò Jomelli.
This copy is in one of the hands to be found in the Galuppi sources held in SLUB. It came from the Venetian copying house of Iseppo (Giuseppe) Baldan, who supplied numerous works (including the greater part of the Galuppi collection of sacred music) now kept in Dresden.
This score copy names the singers of a performance at the Incurabili, Venice. They are: M[ari]a Theresa (S), Elisabetta (A), Cattina (S), Anz.a S. Polo (B), Emilia (T), Cecilia (B), and Angela (S). Although some singers named in this score remained at the Incurabili after 1743 or 1745 when Jommelli was appointed, ‘Anzoletta’ and Angela [Brissini] are documented by Sven Hansell (Works for Solo Voices of Johann Adolph Hasse: Table 2) as singing for the Incurabili in the 1730s only.
Wolfgang Hochstein (Die Kirchenmusik von Niccolò Jommelli, v. 1, A.II.2.8, 191–2; v. 2, 66–8) considers the attribution to Jommelli of this example (Mus. 3032-D-2) to be doubtful.
