Title page: No: 2 (non-autogr.) | Missa prima | (abbreviata | 1727) | à 4 Voc. | con Trombe | corni di caccia | Hautbois | Violini | etc: | di Giov. Heinichen.
The first version of Heinichen’s Missa primitiva (Mus. 2398-D-5a: M 1) was performed on 1 June 1721 (Pentecost). The Dresden Diarium Missionis reported ‘Sacrum solenne cum intradis fecit et produxit Capellae Magister Serenissimi Princips [Heinichen]. Interfuit uterque Serenissimus Princeps; sed non Rex’. (The Kapellmeister of the Prince composed and performed a Solemn Mass with intraden. Both Prince and Princess were present, but not the king).
Following a decision reported in the Dresden Diarium Missionis on 28.10.1725 – ‘debebit Gloria et Credo constanter esse breve’ (The Gloria and Credo will always need to be brief) – Heinichen began to shorten his earlier mass settings.
On this work see Horn (Hkm, 71–3, 84).
