Remarks

Bound score copy. Original blue-grey wrapper in later hard binding.
Label on outer binding (in pencil): Aldrovandini ([left) Magnificat (right). Wrapper title (in Zelenka’s hand): Nro 8 (upper right; changed from 18) | Magnificat à 4 | C: A: T: B: | 2 Violini | 1 Viola | con | Organo | del Sigl: Altrovandini | Ex. C. | NB N 9 habetur in Laudate Dominu[m] sub Nro 3.
Barely any alteration is seen in the score Mus. 2204-D-3. No viola part has been added (which the Catalogo 1765 shows), and no sign exists to indicate the addition of ripieno oboes. This work is composed in eleven independent sections as a ‘number’ setting.
Accompanying Zelenka’s entry into the Inventarium is the margin note ‘O/:’ (Cistercian monastery at Osek, Northern Bohemia). This setting is listed with Vespers works that, according to the entry in the non-thematic catalogue of Osek (f. 36a), were procured for the monastery beginning in the year 1724.
A copy once held by the Prague cathedral collection now is missing (CZ-Pak, 3). See Štefan ([4] Sign. 3), prov. Sehling.
This Magnificat setting is discussed by Stockigt, ‘The Vespers Psalms of Jan Dismas Zelenka’, App. 2, Nr. 18.
Horn (Hkm, 129) identifies the copyist as ZS 0 (Die wichtigsten Schreiber, 163; 174), who was associated with Zelenka from c1725 until the early 1730s. Incipit given in Zelenka-Dokumentation, 48, Nr. 26.
