Joseph Taylor of Saxby-All-Saints, North Lincolnshire, was a bailiff on a large estate in the latter part of his life. He was also a traditional folksinger. In the year this photograph was taken he recorded nine of his songs with the Gramophone Company. Percy Grainger befriended him and set Taylor’s version of the traditional song, Rufford Park Poachers, in his Lincolnshire Posey suite.
