Title

"Mo Shgìal Fén" Scrapbook

Description

Scrapbook containing newspaper cuttings of "Autobiography of Canon O'Leary - Mo Shgìal Fén". This is a reproduction of An tAthair Peadar Ua Laoghaire's Mo Sgéal Féin (1915) in Letiriú Shímplí - "simplified Irish" - a phonetic spelling system devised by Shán Ó Cuív and others in 1910.

O'Donnell collected and pasted the instalments into the scrapbook, then re-transliterated the phonetic spelling into "proper" Irish, using a Gaelic script including lenition marks. Although O'Donnell didn't finish he prepared the scrapbook by indicating page numbers next to the newspaper cuttings, presumably referring to the corresponding sections in the book publication of Mo Sgéal Féin.

The final pages of the scrapbook contain an English translation in O'Donnell's hand of Ua Laoghaire's Séadna - Chapter 27, p. 231.
