The second and penultimate movements of this setting are a parody on Altro Ricercar of the Messa della Apostoli from Girolamo Frescobaldi’s Fiori Musicali.
On 18 March 1738 (In Vigilia S. Josephi Sponsi BMV) the Dresden Diarium Missionis reported that at 4 o’clock the Lauretanian Litanies should have been performed but as Zelenka had not brought them, he produces a Miserere instead. (‘Hora 4. debebant esse Litaniae Lauretanae, interim D. Zelenka eas? secum non habens produxit Miserere’). In the previous year on 6 April it was reported that Zelenka had performed a very long Miserere (‘Hora 4 Miserere longissimum productum à D. Zelenka’).
