Remarks
Autogr. score with blue-grey cover with autogr. title: STATIO | Pma
This a capella composition for two choirs is considered to be the earliest surviving example of a composition by Zelenka. The title (STATIO Pma) suggests that this was sung at the first station of the Theophoric (Corpus Christi) procession.
In Dresden this procession took place within the Hofkirche because August II disallowed processions in the open. In the original Hofkirche building (ded. 1708) the procession moved to the side altar of St Joseph, then to the balcony. The third station was the Marian altar, and the fourth, the high altar. In the later Hofkirche (dedicated 1751) the procession moved from the main body of the church into the four corner chapels especially built for this procession.
See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 303, ZWV 158 (‘verloren: D-72, 9 stimmen’)
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) parts only are listed under the heading Statio Quadruplex Pro Processione. Misericordia tua (III/Z/17/4). Scoring is given as ‘à 4 voci e 2 Cori a Capella.’
