In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are listed under the heading Antiphonae: 5 Alma Redemptoris. No. 4) (III/Z/15/10). The scoring is given as ‘à Contralto Solo co’VVni, Viola ed Org.’
Jóhannes Ágústsson proposes that this setting was composed for one of the new arrivals at the Dresden court: the castrato Domenico Annibali: ‘The year 1730 ended on a high note for Zelenka. His final composition of that year, Alma redemptoris mater (ZWV 126) dated 30 December, was no doubt written with Annibali in mind’. ‘The secular vocal music collection of Jan Dismas Zelenka’, 18–19.
