Remarks
This hastily written autogr. score of Alma Redemptoris mater (in a) comprises 26 bars only. It is without cover. At the head of the score is written: ‘#Pmo:’ (this is the position given in the Alma Redemptoris listings in the Inventarium, p. 43); ‘Partitur[a]’
A catalogue label from the Catalogo (c1784) kept with the score reads: Lit. Schranck No III Z 15. Fach 7. Lage | 5 Alma Redemptoris à 4 voci | co’VVni Viola ed Org. | Partitura e part | del Sigr. Zelencka. Incipit.
See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 299, ZWV 125.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are listed under the heading Antiphonae: 5 Alma Redemptoris. No. 1) (III/Z/15/7). The scoring is given as ‘à 4 voci co’VVni, Viola ed Org.’
This setting would have been performed by the Kapellknaben during the Interregnum (1727–1734), when Zelenka appears to have been under great pressure while carrying out responsibility for this ensemble, as well as the solemn music of the Catholic court church.
