The autograph score has two organ parts. The second, notated on the lowermost stave in the key of B flat, is marked ‘Organo transposito’. (See lowermost stave on page 5 of vol. 1). Had this work been written for performance in the Dresden’s royal Catholic chapel then it seems almost certain that the organ (or perhaps the positiv) of the church at the time of performance was tuned a tone higher than the pitch at which the royal musicians (most of the woodwind players then were French) played. Fürstenau (II, 39) reported that in 1720 (after the composition of this Mass) work on the organ of the church was paid for by the electoral prince and princess.
See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 285–6, ZWV 3.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score only is listed for [Messa:] No: 31) Messa senza Gloria Corporis Domni.: Kyrie, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus (III/Z/13/4).
