Remarks

Listed here are the original parts (now missing) for the score of Baliani’s mass (Mus. 2243-D-1), a work revised by Zelenka in 1739 and attributed to him in the Catalogo. These parts were catalogued by SLB as Mus. 2358-D-29. Note that the original scoring of five vocal parts seen in Mus. 2243-D-1) was reduced to four parts: SATB.
Stockigt (‘After Six Weeks’) suggests this could have been one of two masses prepared for Maria Josepha’s churching (Kirchgang) held at Hubertusburg on 1.11.1739 following the birth of Saxon Prince Clemens Wenceslaus (b 28.9.1739).
On Zelenka’s revisions of Balian’s ‘Messa senza Credo a 5 voci’, see Horn (Hkm, 175) and I/B/2/1.
Incipits are given in Zelenka-Dokumentation, 48–9, Nr. 31.
In the Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) parts for the 18th listing of a Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus for this mass (attributed to Zelenka) are listed. (III/Z/12/1). There the scoring given for each section is: ‘à 4 voci co’ VVni. Oboi, Viola ed Org.’
