Remarks
A set of five parts.
Cover title: Beatus vir | â 4 | C: A: T: B: | a Capella | ex | B. | di Sign: Giovan: Battista Vitalli.
Parts: Canto; Alto; Tenore; Basso; Continuo (figured).
This Beatus vir setting by Giovanni Battista Vitali might be a copy made from the publication Salmi concerti op. 6 (Bologna, 1677). Zelenka also held a copy of a setting of psalm 110 Confitebor by Vitali which, although unlisted in the Inventarium, appears as the ‘Confitebor’ listing No. 6 in Zelenka’s collection ‘Psalmi varii’ of c1735.
See Stockigt, ‘The Vespers Psalms of Jan Dismas Zelenka’, App. 2, ‘Further Psalm Settings held by Zelenka’.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa ...’ (c1784) parts only are listed for the psalm ‘Beatus vir’ by Vital[l]i (III/V/6/17). There, the scoring is given as: ‘à Capella.’
The RISM entry of Vitali’s Beatus vir suggests that it probably originated from the Lutheran court church of the Dresden palace.
