Remarks
Faded score without cover. Tre lunae watermark. Parts are missing.
Caption title (barely legible): [Laudate pueri à] Canto solo con Istromti Del [...]rica [...].
This source appears to have the same origins as Mus. 2389-E-1 and Mus. 2389-E-2. See III/V/4/9-10.
Michael Talbot (email 15.3.2019) advises that this Dresden source of RV 601 ‘is most certainly in the hand of Giovanni Antonio Mauro, as “Scribe/Hand 4” is now known to be (not Vivaldi’s father, as previously thought). But certain additions (by comparison with the composer's autograph manuscript) show that it was prepared under Vivaldi's supervision. It must therefore have been from Vivaldi, rather than from Mauro, that this work was ordered from Dresden.’ Federico Maria Sardelli (Catalogo delle concordanze musicali Vivaldiane, 166) identifies several movements of this setting as being based upon other compositions of Vivaldi.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa ...’ (c1784) score only is listed for ‘Laudate pueri’ by Vivaldi (III/V/ 6/20). The scoring is given as: ‘à Soprano Solo co’ VV.ni Viola ed Org.’
Vivaldi’s three sacred settings for solo soprano held by SLUB are discussed by Michael Talbot in The Sacred Vocal Music of Antonio Vivaldi. On RV 601 see 268–74 (especially). See also Ágústsson (‘The Secular Vocal Collection of Jan Dismas Zelenka’), who suggests this psalm setting for solo voice was among a group of works commissioned by Zelenka from Vivaldi. 38–9.
