Remarks

This incipit corresponds with No 1 (‘Caro mea’) from Caldara’s [12] Motetti a due, e tre voci Op. 4 for Canto, Alto, Basso, Violone o Tiorba, Organo. The now-missing collection of the 12 Offertoria pro Quadragesima, listed in the Catalogo (1765) under Musica senza nome dell’Autore seems to have been a series of re-workings undertaken by Zelenka in Dresden based upon Caldara’s 12 Motetti a due, e tre Voci, a collection dedicated to Cardinal Ottoboni and published as Op. 4 (Bologna: Silvani, 1715).
See Stockigt, ‘Musica senza nome’, 31 (28.7).
In the ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are shown for No. 2 of the 12 anonymous Offertoria Pro Quadragesima’, Ave Crucis (III/25/7). Scoring given as ‘à 2 Soprani, senza stromenti’. The incipit (in d minor, given in bass clef with instrumental beaming) agrees with the incipit for the Canto of No. 1 (‘Caro mea’, without key signature) from Caldara’s 12 Motetti, Op. 4.
