Remarks
Autogr. score of Zelenka’s secular motet with Latin text: Qui nihil sortis. No title page; no wrapper title; no identification by name; undated.
No. 4 (replacing 8 [?]) at head of score (upper right) is non-autogr.
Most of the catalogue label which corresponds to the Catalogo (1765) is missing through damage: [Schranck N]o III. [ 28. Fach] 4. Lage | [Mote]tto | [Qui nih]il sortis | ... Contr: Alto | ... Oboe | (the remainder is illegible).
A label to correspond with the Catalogo (c1784, entries in red ink have faded and are no longer legible) is kept on a recent cover to the score: Schranck No: III. | 25. Fach 4. Lage | [No. 4) Motetto | Qui nihil sortis] | à 2 voci | C. e A. | co’ VVni Vla Ob: Fag: V ed Org. | Partitura sola. Incipit (this agrees with bar 1 of the part for concertante oboe).
Dedication: (conclusion of the score) A M D G B V M OO SS H AA P I R.
Wolfgang Horn (‘Überlegungen zu einigen “Incerta” im Werk Jan Dismas Zelenkas‘) convincingly argues for the assignment of this work to Zelenka.
NB: Watermarks seen in the score are the same as those used on paper for Zelenka’s motets Barbara dira effera (ZWV 164) and Sollicitus fossor (ZWV 209)—works that almost certainly were composed by Zelenka for insertion into a Prague performance of San’t Elena al Calvario by Leonardo Leo. See Freemanová & Stockigt, ‘Jan Dismas Zelenka and a Prague performance of San’t Elena al Calvario by Leonardo Leo’. See also Stockigt, ‘Musica senza nome’, 30 (28.4).
In the ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) a score only is shown for the motet Qui nihil sortis, listed under Musica senza nome dell’Autore: III/25/4. There, the scoring is given as ‘à Sopr. e Contr’Alto Solo co’VVni Vla Ob: Fag. ed Org.’ Incipit.
