Remarks

This incipit corresponds with No 3 (‘Ego sum Panis viuus’) from Caldara’s [12] Motetti a due, e tre voci Op 4 for Canto, Alto, Basso, Violone o Tiorba, Organo. The now-missing collection of the 12 Offertoria pro Quadragesima, listed in the Catalogo (1765) under Musica senza nome dell’Autore seems to have been a series of re-workings undertaken by Zelenka in Dresden based upon Caldara’s 12 Motetti a due, e tre Voci, a collection dedicated to Cardinal Ottoboni and published as Op 4 (Bologna: Silvani, 1715).
See Stockigt, ‘Musica senza nome’, 31 (28.10).
In the ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are shown for No 5 of the 12 anonymous Offertoria Pro Quadragesima’, Plora, ah plora (III/25/10). Scoring given as ‘à 2 voci Sopr. e Contr:‘Alto, senza stromenti’. The incipit (in g minor, in bass clef with instrumental beaming) agrees with the incipit of the alto part of No. 3, ‘Ego sum Panis viuus’ from Caldara’s 12 Motetti, Op. 4. (Text from John VI, 51).
