Remarks
Mengelberg. Messen: 1752 Dresd. Mus. (K. H.)* Nr. 1.
For the register of Ristori’s compositions see Curt Rudolf Mengelberg, Giovanni Alberto Ristori (1916): ‘Verzeichnis der Werke’, [141 ff.].
In his introduction to this register of Ristori’s compositions, Mengelberg noted that although most of Ristori’s then-unpublished manuscripts were in the possession of the Königlische Bibliothek zu Dresden (Dres. Mus.), not all had been assigned a catalogue number. Those that had been catalogued, however, Mengelberg showed thus: Dresd. Mus. Ms. (with the number). Moreover, at that time several works from Dresden’s Catholic Hofkirche (K.H.) had only recently been incorporated into the royal collection, many of which had not yet been catalogued.
For his register Of Ristori’s compositions Mengelberg acknowledged his indebtedness to Eitner’s Quellenlexikon, and to now-missing ‘vol. I’ (Note this volume number) of the ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784: the more detailed register in three volumes that prepared some years after the catalogue of 1765.
At the time of Mengelberg’s investigation many of Ristori’s works listed in vol. I [?] of the ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ could not be found in the Königlische Bibliothek zu Dresden. Mengelberg indicated lost works from the Hofkirche thus: Dres. Mus. (K.H.). Those that had been located were marked with an asterisk thus: Dres. Mus. (K.H.)*.
Thus, Mengelberg’s listing of this mass as Dresd. Mus. (K. H.)* Nr. 1. indicates that he had located this work in the Königlichen Bibliothek zu Dresden.
