Title page (autogr.): No: 4 (non-autogr) | Litaniae (2da) | pro Festo S. Fr. Xaverii | à 4 Voc.con Strom[enti] | di Giov. Heinichen | 1726.
Conclusion of score: 16 M[inuten?].
Following her arrival in Dresden (1719), Maria Josepha ordered the singing of the Litanies of St Francis Xavier throughout the octave. On 2.12.1726 (Vigil of the Xavier feast) the Dresden Diarium Missionis reported on Heinichen’s settings of these Xavierian Litanies: ‘Hora quarta Litaniae de S. Francisco Xaverio composuit novas Dominus Heiningen’. (At 4 o’clock, Litaniae de S. Francisco Xaverio newly composed [by] Heinichen). Moreover, music was performed in the church within the Xavier Octave on 8 December 1726 (Feast of the Immaculate Conception BVM, and birth- and name day of Maria Josepha): ‘Musicam exquisitam fecit D. Heiningen’. (Exquisite music by [fecit] Heinichen).
The musical settings for Dresden’s Hofkirche of the Litanies of St Francis Xavier are considered to be something of a rarity. See Magda Marx-Weber, ‘Bemerkungen zu Zelenkas Litaneivertonungen’ in ZS II: 145–52. See also Horn (Hkm, 76).
The Latin text and English translation of the Litaniae ad S. Franciscum Xaverium is published by Stockigt in Jan Dismas Zelenka, 180–83.
