After her arrival in Dresden, Saxon Electoral Princess Maria Josepha had a memorial requiem sung annually for the anniversary of the death of her father, Emperor Joseph I. It was held on (or near to) 17 April. In 1726, this requiem, dated ‘Mes Mart. 1726’, was produced by Heinichen on 13 April with the royal musicians. A Dresden Diarium Missionis entry dated 13.4.1726 reported: ‘Hora 11. cantatum Requiem solenne anniversarium (for Joseph I). Musicam cum tota Regia Capella produxit Heiningen. 11 o’clock’. (Sung Solemn anniversary requiem. Music produced by Heinichen with the entire royal capella). The earlier date of the memorial was because 17 April fell during Holy Week in 1726.
