Remarks

Bound score copy of a Kyrie–Gloria pair. 18th c. binding. Note on the fly leaf: No 13. Included in the binding are Credo | Sanctus | Agnus (brevis) A.
Title page: Kyrie e Gloria a 8 voci | con Ripieni | con VV, Violetta, Violoncello | e concerto d’Istrom. da Fiato | Musica | del Sigr. Franco. Feo.
This source comes from Naples. Note the physical similarity of this source to the Kyrie e Gloria by Tarantino (Francesco Nicola Fago): Mus. 2200-D-2.
Final page: the remark: 27 file[tto] refers to the gold decorations pressed onto the spine of the binding. Neapolitan watermark.
This is one of the Neapolitan masses entered under ‘Musica di Chiesa di varii Autori’ in Maria Josepha’s catalogue (Nr. 5), an inventory that can be dated to c1743 (Jóhannes Ágústsson, ‘The Secular Vocal Collection of Jan Dismas Zelenka’, 33). Other Neapolitan masses listed there are by Domenico Sarri (III/S/7/1) and Tarantino (Fago: III/T/2/1). Each is also entered into the Catalogo (1765) but are not found in later catalogues of Wettin family members.
This source presents an example of exchange between the royal music collection and the collection of Dresden’s Catholic court church. Items could migrate from one member of the royal family to another through gift or inheritance, as noted in Bacciagaluppi & Stockigt, ‘Italian Manuscripts of Sacred Music in Dresden’, 150–51.
The incipit given above agrees with the incipit of a Missa integra listing in the Osek Inventory, 1754, under the heading ‘Catalogus Missarum pro Stylo moderno producibilium. Missa Solennissimae’ (sub littera A, fol. 1v, No. 9).
