Remarks

Set of 12 parts. Blue-grey wrapper.
Cover title (hand of Zelenka): No 1 | Stephanus autem F | Offertorium | de | S. Stephano. a 4 | di Giovanni | Deslins.
Parts (8 vocal; 4 instrumental, all in Zelenka’s hand from mid 1720s): Soprano; Soprano R.; Contralto; Contr.Alto R.; Tenore; Tenore R.; Basso; Basso R.; Violone; Tiorba e Violoncello; Organo (figured); Fagotto.
Horn (Hkm, 104) notes this to be one of two compositions by Deslins included among the Pietro Giovannelli (Joannellus) collection, Novi thesauri musici, Bks 1 and 3, published in Venice 1568 in 1568 by A. Gardano. (RISM 15684). The second work is a setting of Veni creator spiritus, Bk. 1. According to GMO most works in this collection were composed by singers of the Imperial Chapel, although a few were attached to the court of Duke Albert of Bavaria.
The Offertorium de S. Stephano is structured in two sections. According to Zelenka’s instruction, organ preluding was to be performed before the second part of the Offertorium was begun. In the middle of the organ part ‘NB Fit praeludium’ is written. This instruction also seen in Zelenka‘s hymn settings. All other parts have ‘Praeludio tacet’ at this point.
