Remarks

Although this work is listed in the Catalogo (1765) under the name Giov. Amb. BISSONI, the composer, according to Eitner, is Antonio BISSONI (who is listed with several sacred works in RISM Biblioline). However, the incipit of this Credo (2682-D-2 and 2682-D-2a) is identical with the beginning of the Credo from the Messa prima attributed to Giovanni Ambrogio Bissone in D-Dl, Mus. 2361-D-1 (I/B/3/12).
NB: Incorrect time signature given for the incipit in this Catalogo.
Three sources of this Credo setting are held:
1. D-Dl, Mus. 2361-D-2,1: Score copy of a Credo setting in a minor. Partially texted and without notation for violins and viola. The instrumental b.c. line of the first page is notated by Giovanni Alberto Ristori, who also wrote the title page: Partitura | Credo a 8. (See RISM 212006878).
2. Mus. 2682-D-2,2: Score copy of a Credo setting in a minor. With text. Title page (Ristori): No: 2 [?] | Credo a 8 | con V.V. di rinforzo | Bissoni. An additional bass part added by Ristori for Fagotto ed alti Bassi which elaborates the part for Organo. (See RISM 212006879)
3. Mus. 2682-D-2,2a: A set of 24 parts for a Credo setting in a minor. Blue-grey outer and inner wrapper. Outer wrapper with label to correspond with the entry in the missing Catalogo [c1784]: Schranck No: I. | Lit: B. 3. Fach 9. Lage | No: 1. Credo | à 8 voci | co’ VVni Viola ed Org; | Partitura e parti cav: del Sigr Bisoni. Inner wrapper; back: Y Bissoni | 2 Credo à 8. con partit[ur]a. | e parti cavate.
Parts (8 vocal; 16 instrumental): P[rim]o Coro Canto; P[rim]o Coro Alto; P[rim]o Coro Tenore; P[rim]o Coro Basso; 2do Coro Canto; 2do Coro Alto; 2do Coro Tenore; 2do Coro Basso; Violoncello Continue; Violoncello Rip[ien]o; Contrabasso; Violino Primo; Violino Primo; Violino Primo; Violino Secondo; Violino Secondo; Violino Secondo; Violetta; Violetta; Oboe Primo (the range extends up to d’’’ (suggesting, perhaps, that Antonio Besozzi played from this part. Besozzi replaced principal oboist of the Dresden Hofkapelle ,Johann Christian Richter [d. 1744], ); Oboe Secondo; Fagotto; Fagotto; Organo. (See RISM 212006880)
