Notes

The place name in the inscription is difficult to decipher. At first glance it appears to read ‘Marundell’, but on closer inspection it may read ‘Menindee’. Certainly the red earth would suggest this is an outback scene and Menindee, in the far west of New South Wales, is a potential candidate.
