Description

Depicts Christ kneeling to support the limp body of a fallen German soldier in a pieta type composition. Christ notably has ringlets either side of his face, akin to Orthodox Jewish payots.

St Martin's Church was badly damaged during Allied bombing on the evening of 6 December 1942. Only the outside walls survived, including Ohly's memorial relief. With thanks to Joachim Specht, Grünstadt, for photographs and details.
