Remarks
Autogr. score (unfigured). Restored. Blue-grey wrapper with autogr. title. No label.
Autogr. cover title: a# | Hipocondrie | à 7 Concer: | VViol: 2, Oboe 2, Viola, | Fagotto e Basso | Contin: | a Praga | 1723 | Zelenka. Pencil (Cx 1146).
It is possible that this movement was intended as the introduction to an unfinished Ouverture Suite: eight sides of un-notated manuscript paper that follow the ouverture suggest this possibility.
Composed for the celebrations held in Prague, 1723, surrounding the coronation of Charles VI and Elisabeth Christine as King and Queen of Bohemia. The title ‘Hypochondrie’ has never satisfactorily been explained.
Unlisted in the ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) due to relocation to Schrank II.
Zelenka-Dokumentation, 115, Dok, 19; 308, ZWV 188. Also see Schranck No: II. Das erhaltene Instrumentalmusikrepertoire, 152, where the number is given as Cx 1146.
A facsimile edition is published with introduction by Jaroslav Bužga, Leipzig, 1979.
