This is the first of two settings of the Litany of Loretto from 1744. Litaniae Lauretanae No. 1, with the subtitle ‘Consolatrix afflictorum’ (ZWV 151), was composed at the onset of an illness suffered by Maria Josepha. The title page of the autograph score, dated 1744, bears this dedication: ‘L J C Litaniae Lauretanae factae sub Titulo: Consolatrix Afflictorum et Serenissimae Poloniarum Reginae, Electrici Saxoniae in profundissima veneratione dedicatae ab humillimo devotissimo servo Joanne Disma Zelenka’. (Transl: Litanies [...] composed with the title Consolatrix afflictorum and dedicated with profoundest veneration to Her Serene Highness, the Queen of the Polands, Electress of Saxony, by her most humble and devoted servant, Jan Dismas Zelenka).
