Remarks

Bound autogr. score in Zelenka’s hand kept in blue-grey cover. Damaged.
Cover title: D# (upper left) Nro 7 (Upper right) | Credo à 5 | CC2:A:T:B: | Violini 2 Obe 2 | Travers. 2 Viola | Fagotto [solo?] | Basso Contin: the remainder is illegible.
Neither date nor dedication is found in this badly water-damaged score of a Credo setting, which the Catalogo of 1765 falsely attributed to Zelenka. See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 310, ZWV 216.
Zelenka listed this as an anonymous (‘N:N:’) work in his Inventarium as the seventh of his collection of Credo settings: 7. D#: Credo a 5 CC:2. A.T.B: W. 2, Oboe 2, Traversa 2, Tromba Sola, Viole e Bass=Continu[e]. N:N:’.
The vocal scoring of this Credo, which includes two soprano voices, suggests that the work was acquired by Zelenka following the arrival of the Italian-trained castrati in mid-1730, when two male sopranos became available to sing in the Catholic court church.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score only is listed for [Messa:] No: 32) Credo (III/Z/13/5). There, the scoring is given as: ‘à 4 voci co’ VVni. Viola, 1 Trombe ed Org.’
