Riepel, who lived in Dresden between 1739 and 1745, claimed to have taken daily (composition) lessons from Jan Dismas Zelenka. See John Walter Hill, ‘Joseph Riepel’s Music Theory’, 191.
The cover to this set of parts bears great similarity to the cover to the parts for Hasse’s motet: Quando Jesus est in corde (Mus.2477-E-37,2). See Landmann, Drei Studien, Abb. I.59, p. 257. This seems to be the hand that wrote the original labels (now mainly obliterated) on many of the covers of the Galuppi sources. See, for example, the cover with three catalogue labels for Nisi Dominus attributed to Baldassare Galuppi. D-Dl, Mus. 2973-D-38.
