The Metropolitan church of St Vitus, Prague, held a Vespers cycle by the composer named ‘Joh. Georg. [Jan Jiří] Philippi’. His ‘Vesperae de dominica & apostolis’ comprises 17 psalm settings and Magnificat, Prov. Novak. These are now kept in CZ-Pak. See Štefan, Ecclesia Metropolitana Pragensis Catalogus Collectionis ([1030] Sign. 978). On the cover to the manuscript is written ’decanus Sobotecensis’.
The names ‘Philippi’ and ‘R. Dno. Philippi’ also appear in the music catalogue of the Piarist college, Kosmonosích.
According to Bishop Podlaha (Catalogus, 42), Johannes Georgius Philippi was born c1670 at Mnichovo-Hradi[s]ti. He was ordained in 1697, parish priest of Bakov, 1705 dean of Mincihovo-Hradsit, 1719 dean of Sobotca; died on the 14.12.1722; shortly before his death he was elected Metropolitan canon; the news of this election finally arrived on the 10th day after his death. (‘[...] presbyter ordinatus 1697, parochus Bakovii, 1705 decanus Mnichovo-Hrad[s]tii, 1719 decanus Sobotcae; obiit 14. Decembris, 1722, paulo ante mortem electus canonicus metropolitanus; nuncius de electione venit demum die decima post eius mortem’).
