Title page: Messa à | quattro Voci, con VVni, Oboe, Flauti, e Corni | di Mattia Gerardi.
Most of the court records and royal music collections previously held in Warsaw were moved to Dresden after the deaths of both August II and August III. Items of music were then absorbed into Dresden collections. Thus works by the Italian composer Mattia Gerardi (or Gherardi), Kapellmeister to the Voivod of Kiev in 1760 – later hired in that capacity by King Stanislaw August Poniatowski, and who assisted with the music of the Polish court of August III – and Antonio Duni (a Kapellmeister of the Polnische Kapelle) came into the collection of Dresden’s Catholic court church.
Gerardi might also have become the director of the Brühl Kapelle after Georg Harrer left for Leipzig (1750). See Kollmar, Gottlob Harrer (1703–1755), 172, 356.
Claudio Bacciagaluppi advises that this source is written on Breslau paper (the watermark is even dated 1751).
On Gerardi, see Alina Zórawska-Witkowska, ‘The Saxon Court of the Kingdom of Poland’ in Music at German Courts, 70–71.
