Remarks
Score copy.
Blue-grey cover. Cover label (it covers an earlier label of which No: 12 is visible) to correspond with the entry in this Catalogo (1765): Schranck No. I. | G. 19. Fach 21. Lage | No. 12.) Lauda Jerusalem | à 5 voci | co’ VVni Viola e Basso | Coro pieno a Capella | Partitura e parti cav: | del Sigr Galuppi | Incipit.
Title page (hand of Baldan): Lauda Jerusalem a 5 | Coro pieno. a | Capella. | Del Sigl. Baldasar Galuppi, detto | Buranello.
This setting is scored for SATTB with instrumental doubling. Four instrumental voices move between five vocal parts. The bass line is figured. This setting has strong fugal structures, beginning with a double fugue.
Michael Talbot notes that the setting Lauda Jerusalem a 5 voci (olim Mus. 2973-D-41) is likely to be a reworking of an anonymous composition held by Antonio Vivaldi as a Credidi setting (RV 605). This working is preserved anonymously in Vivaldi’s personal archive, today I-Tn, Giordano 33, ff 115–120. It is known in the Vivaldi catalogue as RV Anh. 35. Vivaldi adapted (and retexted) the work, without acknowledgment, to make his own Credidi setting, RV 605. See Stockigt & Talbot, ‘Two more Vivaldi Finds in Dresden’, 40–45. Burde, Die venezianische Kirchenmusik von Baldassare Galuppi, Fehlzuschreibung, 278–9.
