Remarks
Score copy. Blue-grey cover.
Two cover labels. The second, uppermost label obliterates the original label. However, the numbered positions of Fach and Lage seen on this uppermost label have been altered so that the storage position corresponds with an entry in another catalogue (perhaps the Catalogo of c1784): Schranck No: I. | Lit G 21. (pasted over another number) Fach 4. (a paste over) Lage | No: 11) Kyrie Gloria | Credo | à 5 voci | co’ VVni. Oboi, Viola, ed Org. | Partitura sola | del Sigr Galuppi | Incipit.
Title page (hand of Baldan): Messa | Concertata à 5 Voci, due Canti, Alto, Tenor | e Basso Con Strumenti | del Sigl | Baldassar Galuppi, detto Buranello. This score includes Sanctus and Agnus settings. See also Mus. 2973-D-14 (I/G/16/6).
This setting setting opens with a Sinfonia for strings. (The first note of the incipit given here should be d’). Kyrie I is scored for vn. 1,2; va.; SATB; b.c. (figured). It originally comprised Kyrie; Gloria; Credo (at the conclusion of the Credo Baldan wrote ‘Finis.’). Sanctus and Agnus settings (at whose conclusion is written: ‘Dona nobis/ ut Kyrie fuga’ [ie. Kyrie II]) were added to the binding in a hand different from Baldan’s. These movements are also scored for five voices (SSATB). Thus, the source Mus. 2973-D-9 became a Missa tota.
See Burde, Die venezianische Kirchenmusik von Baldassare Galuppi, Werkverzeichnis B, Unsichere Werkzuschreibungen, 232–5. Also Stockigt, Italian Sacred Music (2018), 227–230, and the comments under Remarks of I/G/15/2.
