Remarks
Zelenka’s remark ‘manca’ with this listing in his Inventarium implies that his copy went missing during his lifetime. Yet Missa Canonica was listed in this Catalogo (1765).
Horn (Hkm, 149) advises that this now-missing copy of Fux’s Missa Canonica is described by Köchel, who stated that Zelenka’s copy was dated with the dedication: ‘Laus Deo et omnibus Sanctus ejus, Dresdae 18. Oct. 1719’. Thus, this work was copied in Dresden following Zelenka’s return from Vienna.
Concordance
CZ-Pkřiž, XXXVI B 298. Messa Canonica | Particolarmente Diversifacata | di Giovan: Jioseffo Fux | Mastro [sic!] di Capella | Di | Carlo Sesto Imperatore | de Romani e Re di | Spagna | In Vienna. This title page to a set of five parts (CATB; Vlne) suggests that the source came from 1713 or earlier, when Charles VI (as Charles III) lost the title King of Spain. Reidel (Kirchenmusik am Hofe Karls VI.) lists this as an a cappella work mass (133) that came to be performed in the Große Hofburgkapelle Vienna during Lent in 1735 and 1736 (231, with a query), in 1738 (249), and 1739 (246).
