Remarks

Bound volume containing copies of five psalm settings, each with original blue-grey or pale brown cover. The Magnificat that was listed with these psalms in Zelenka’s Inventarium now is missing from Dresden and it was not listed by Eitner. Also missing are the parts that once accompanied this Dixit Dominus setting. Wolfgang Horn states (Hkm, 133) that the identification of ‘Fabri’ as Annibale Pio Fabri may be traced back to Moritz Fürstenau.
Title page 1: C (left) Nr 6 (right) | Dixit à 4 | Viol. 2 | Viola | Trombe 2. | Fabri.
Left: Schranck No. I | 13. Fach, 1. Lage | Incipit. This information corresponds with the location given for this listing in the Catalogo (1765).
This set of psalm settings by Fabri must have been acquired by Zelenka before he assembled the Psalmi varii (c1735) because it is included in that collection.
Each score of these Vespers psalms (de Confessore) bears signs of revision by Zelenka, including the addition of orchestration marks (‘Tutti’, ‘Solo’, ‘VV’ – implying the addition of oboes), additions to the string parts, figuring of and alterations to the bass line, additional dynamics, articulation, and marks of tempo. Two trumpets (‘Clarino I’; ‘Clarino II’) are included in this C major setting.
Although Eitner reported that these works were in the hand of Zelenka, Horn (Die wichtigsten Schreiber, 164, 174) identifies the copyist as ZS O.
On this work, see Stockigt, ‘The Vespers Psalms of Jan Dismas Zelenka’, App. 2, No. 35.
The incipit is also given in Zelenka-Dokumentation, 55, Nr. 91.
Michael Driscoll advises that this Dixit Dominus in Zelenka’s collection attributed to Fabri is a unique attribution found nowhere else. RISM listings attribute the setting to a variety of composers, mainly to one named ‘Schmidt’.
