Caption title (Heinichen’s hand): Messa à 4 Concertata Con VV. e R [?] Di Angelo Anto Caroli | (another hand) No. 36 | 2 scudo 1 giul. ‘39’ (minuten?) is written at the conclusion.
Vol. 3 [-D-1,3]: Title page (Heinichen’s hand): Sanctus | Agnus Dei. Heinichen’s hand is seen throughout the score. His alterations in red ink include: deletion of an opening orchestral Sinfonia; deletions of sections in the setting; alterations and additions to parts for vn. 1 and vn. 2 (‘una ottava piu Bassa’); rewritings; alterations to the vocal parts and text; addition of oboes in the Credo; indications of simplification of oboe parts.
Horn (Hkm, 125) notes that the two Caroli mass settings in SLUB (among the earliest extant works by this composer) demonstrate the procedure often practised by Heinichen and Zelenka of producing missing parts of the Mass Ordinary by re-texting passages of the existing material. Horn names these constructions ‘Stretched (gestreckte) Masses’.</text>

<text>Score copies (damaged) in two vols. Each is incomplete.
The present source (Mus. 2952-D-2) comprises Gloria (v. 1) and Sanctus (v. 2). Each is in Heinichen’s hand. Parts are missing from Dresden.
Caption title, v. 1 (the setting in G): Gloria (‘abbreviato’) del Sigr Angelo Ant. Caroli Bolognese. ‘32’ [minuten?] is noted at the conclusion of this movement.
This work has no Kyrie setting. (None of the Kyrie settings of Caroli held by SLUB today matches the incipit given in this Catalogo, 1765). The incomplete Gloria, however, is preceded by two bars of manuscript, perhaps the final cadence of the Kyrie?
Caption title, v. 2 (setting in G): Sanctus et Agnus dei; Cavato dal Gloria del Sigr. Angelo Anto Caroli Bo | lognese. The conclusion bears the date: ‘Mense Augusti 1726’.
Horn (Hkm, 125) notes that in this G Major setting Heinichen’s reworking includes not only the addition of Sanctus and Agnus Dei through parody of individual Gloria segments, but also the abbreviation of some passages. On the now lost title page of the source Mus. 2952-D-2 Heinichen remarked: ‘Messa . . . abbreviata e aggiustata all’uso della cappella di Dresda di Giov. Heinichen’ (known from the SLB card catalogue). This remark indicates that, apart from the Gloria, the Kyrie and Credo of this mass existed when it was catalogued by the SLB.</text>

Caption title: Caselli pour Monsieur Pasqualino (left). Caselli (in pencil; right).
The scoring is set out for Corni 1,2 (alto clef, without key signature); Oboè 1,2; Violini 1,2; Viola; Alto (sometimes soprano notation is used, and there are alterations to the vocal line); b.c; Timbali.
Mus. 2366-E-1a: Unbound score copy. Parts are missing from Dresden.
Title page: No: 2. (upper left) | Mottetto. del S. Caselli (del S. Caselli added in pencil). This is probably a copy of -E-1.
Caselli’s motet Sit avernus seems to have been performed by the Italian alto castrato, Pasquale Bruscolini (known as Pasqualino) who, according to Fürstenau (II, 280), arrived in Dresden on 6 March 1753. This copy is in the same hand as the motet Si ab alto monte (D-Dl, Mus. 2-E-14), a source listed as an anonymous work under ‘MUSICA SENZA NOME DELL’AUTORE’ at the end of this catalogue of 1765. See III/28/1.
(Is the composer Caselli the same Caselli whose name appears in the Requiem by Galuppi? See D-Dl, Mus. 2973-D-23,1, a Venetian source).</text>

Title page (hand of Iseppo Baldan): Mottetto | A Voce Sola con Strumenti | Composto li 28. Luglio L’Anno 1758: | In Milano | Del Sigl: Giuseppe Chiesa Milanese.
Conclusion of score: D. Giuseppe Baldan Copista di Musica al Ponto di San Gio. Grisostomo Venezia. The score copy is in the neat, florid hand found in most of the Galuppi sources held in SLUB. It was copied by Iseppo (Giuseppe) Baldan who supplied it to Dresden together with the greater part of the Galuppi collection. On the composers with the family name ‘Chiesa’ see the listing (I/C/8/7). The article ‘Chiesa, Melchiorre’ in GMO (author not named) reports that in Milan (1770), Charles Burney wrote: ‘Chiesa and Monza seem and are said to be the two best composers for the stage here at present’. RISM and Eitner (II, 423–4) attribute In hoc mare to Melchiore Chiesa (Ms. 58. Kgl. Musilaliensamlg.)</text>

<text>NB: Today, this Mass by Ciampi is held in Berlin (D-B, Mus. ms. 3609): Missa Solemnis für 4 St. und Instr. A-Dur (1758). The hand seen in the Berlin source is the same as that in Ciampi’s Te Deum (D-Dl, Mus. 3059-E-1). See the listing (I/C/9/1).
NB: This score is not in the hand of Baldan, but perhaps it was written by one of his copyists? It is dated ‘21 7bre 1758:’ — the same date given for Ciampi’s Te Deum setting: I/C/9/1. Although this score is not in the hand of Baldan, it comes from his copying house. If the date given above is correct, this would be the latest of the dated scores listed in the Catalogo from Baldan’s Venetian business and thus, a terminus ante quem for the sacred music he supplied to Dresden is given.
This Berlin example (D-B, Mus. ms. 3609) must have been taken from Dresden pre-1900. See the entry of Eitner.</text>

Cover title (hand of Zelenka): a (upper left) | Nr. 2 (upper right) | Aria: | Pie Jesu | Tenor | VV 2 | Viola | e | Basso Conti: | de S: Conti.
This is a da capo aria without markings or reworkings by Zelenka.
It now is is established that this item is a work by Francesco Conti. See Horn, Hkm, 166–7.
It is possible that Zelenka met the tiorbist Francesco Conti during time he spent in Vienna (between 1716 and 1719) and in Prague also (1723), when Conti played in the performance of Fux’s opera Costanza e Fortezza.
Incipit is given in Zelenka-Dokumentation, 54, Nr. 85a. Horn (Die wichtigsten Schreiber, 164) identifies the copyist of Mus. 2190-E-1 as ZS O.
NB: A score is kept in Dresden (Mus. 2190-I-1) of Conti’s cantata for solo soprano (text by Apostolo Zeno), L’Istro, a work composed for the marriage celebrations in Vienna (1719) between Austrian Archduchess Maria Josepha and the Saxon Electoral Prince Friedrich August II.</text>

Horn (Hkm, 104) notes this to be one of two compositions by Deslins included among the Pietro Giovannelli (Joannellus) collection, Novi thesauri musici, Bks 1 and 3, published in Venice 1568 in 1568 by A. Gardano. (RISM 15684). The second work is a setting of Veni creator spiritus, Bk. 1. According to GMO most works in this collection were composed by singers of the Imperial Chapel, although a few were attached to the court of Duke Albert of Bavaria.
The Offertorium de S. Stephano is structured in two sections. According to Zelenka’s instruction, organ preluding was to be performed before the second part of the Offertorium was begun. In the middle of the organ part ‘NB Fit praeludium’ is written. This instruction also seen in Zelenka‘s hymn settings. All other parts have ‘Praeludio tacet’ at this point.</text>

This score is in the hand seen in all sources of sacred music by Antonio Duni listed into this Catalogo (1765), now held in SLUB.
After the deaths of both August II (1733) and August III (1763) most court records and royal music collections held in Warsaw were moved to Dresden. The music was then integrated into Dresden collections. Thus, works by the Polish-based Italian composer Antonio Duni, a Kapellmeister of the Polnische Kapelle, came into the collection of Dresden’s Catholic court church. See Bacciagaluppi & Stockigt, ‘Italian Manuscripts of Sacred Music in Dresden’, 143, citing Alina Zórawska-Witkowska, ‘The Saxon Court of the Kingdom of Poland’.
Cover title: In Nomine Domini | Messa à 4 Voci| con | Violini, Violetta, é Basso | del | Sigl Antonio Duni | [1]744.
This score is in the hand seen in all sources of sacred music by Antonio Duni listed into this Catalogo (1765), now held in SLUB.
After the deaths of both August II (1733) and August III (1763) most court records and royal music collections previously held in Warsaw were moved to Dresden and items of music were then integrated into the Dresden collections. Thus, works by the Italian composers based in Poland, including Antonio Duni (a Kapellmeister of the Polnische Kapelle), came into the collection of Dresden’s Catholic court church. See Bacciagaluppi & Stockigt, ‘Italian Manuscripts of Sacred Music in Dresden’, 143, citing Alina Zórawska-Witkowska, ‘The Saxon Court of the Kingdom of Poland’.
