<text>Bound autogr. score of the Gloria from Missa Dei Filii. Blue-grey cover. Parts are missing.
Cover title: L: J: C: | GLORIA ex MISSA | ULTIMARUM | Secunda. | Dicta: MISSA DEI FILII | à 4 | C:A:T:B: | VViolin 2 | Obe 2 | Viola | Basso Continuo | di G: D: Zelenka.
In 1740 Zelenka began a final large-scale project of the composition of six masses (the ‘Missae ultimae’), a project which was not completed. In that year he composed the first of these. See III/Z/12/3.
Missa Dei Filii was probably written between late 1740 and early February 1741.
Dedication: Concl. of Gloria: A M D G B V M OO SS H | [P I R?].
At the time of viewing this source the original blue-grey wrapper to the Gloria was kept at the back of the score.
Two labels which correspond to the catalogues of 1765 and c1784 are attached to the front cover of this wrapper: Schranck No. III. | Lit. Z. 12. Fach 9. Lage | No: 26) Gloria | à 4 voci (insert in pencil: ex ?) | co’ VVni, Viola, ed Org. | Partitura sola | defect | del Sigr Zelencka | Incipit.
A label which corresponds to this Catalogo (1765) is also attached to this wrapper: Schranck No. III. | Z. 12. Fach 4. Lage | Gloria | à 4 voci | co’ VVni, Viola e Basso, Partitura sola defect | del Sigr Zelencka | Incipit.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) a score only is listed for [Messa:] No: 26) Gloria (III/Z/12/9). The scoring is given as: ‘à 4 voci co’ VVni. Oboi, Viola ed Org.’ The listing has the indication ‘defect’. The Kyrie from Missa Dei Filii, C Major (Mus. 2358-D-15,1) is unlisted in the Catalogo (1765). However, the Kyrie and ‘Cum Sancto Spirito’ fugue are entered in the later Catalogo of c1784 (scoring as for the Gloria), preceded by the Christe eleison setting: III/Z/8/2.
On this Mass, see Zelenka-Dokumentation, 149, Dok. 72; 288, ZWV 20 and (edd. P. Horn, Th. Kohlhase), EdM 100, 1989). Also Patricia Corbin, ‘Missa Dei Filii ZWV 20: An Introduction to the Late Masses of Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679–1745)’, 9–32.</text>

Title page (copy from Vienna): L: J: C: [ Laus Jesu Christo] MISSA ULTIMARUM PRIMA dicta MISSA DEI PATRIS, EIDEM MAGNO DEO CREATORI rerum omnium, ac Patri optimo, maximóque, In summa humilitate, In demississima veneratione In profundissima adoratione, corde contrito et humiliato (quod ille non despicit) consecrata; ab Infima, subjectissima indignissima sua creatura Joanne Disma Zelenka 1730 [sic]. Trans: ... FIRST OF THE FINAL MASSES named the MASS OF GOD THE FATHER, DEDICATED TO GOD THE GREAT CREATOR of all things, best and supreme Father, in deepest humility and humblest veneration, in most profound adoration, with a contrite and humbled heart (which He does not despise), by his lowest, most obedient, and most unworthy creature ...
In 1740 Zelenka began a final large-scale project which was never completed: in that year he composed the first of his Missae ultimae. No event presents itself for the composition of what was to be the beginning of this great unfinished cycle of Mass settings. On 21 September (the date is noted on the final page of the Mass), on the day before the departure of the court for Poland, Zelenka completed this Missa Dei Patris (Missa ultimarum prima, ZWV 19) whose title page is given above.
Missa Dei Filii (Missa ultimarum secunda, ZWV 20) and Missa Omnium Sanctorum (ZWV 21) followed. See III/Z/12/4 and III/Z/12/5.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) a score only is listed for Messa No: 25): Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus (III/Z/12/8). Parts are not shown. A note beneath the listing reads: ‘Ist am 19 Juny 1826 zur Copiatur gegeben übergeben worden | die Partitur allein ohne Stimmen.’
NB: The Prague source of this work is attributed to Ristori. See below.
On this work, see Zelenka-Dokumentation, 149, Dok. 71; 288, ZWV 19, and (ed. R. Kubik), EdM 93, 1985.
Concordances:
1. CZ-Pak, 1101. Incipits of a Kyrie and Gloria setting which correspond with these movements of Missa Dei Patris are attributed to Giovanni Alberto Ristori, ‘partim S[ehlin]g’. This example includes trumpets (Clarini 1 and 2 ‘ex C’). Parts are for Canto; Alto; Tenore; Basso; Violino Primo; Violino Primo; Violino Secondo; Viola di Brazzia; Clarino I ex C; Clarino 2da ex C; Violone; Organo. Štefan, ([1152] Sign. 1101), partim Sehling.
2. The incipit agrees with a listing in the Osek Inventory, 1754 of a Kyrie and Gloria setting by Zelenka (Missae Solennes, sive festivales), sub littera C fol. 14, No. 19. Kyrie et Gloria à C:A:T:B: Violinis 2, Violetta, et Organo.</text>

The work comprises three fragments now sewn together.
Fragment 1 (the incipit of the Catalogo comes from bar 1, vn. 1): pp 2–3. Agnus Nro 1. One sheet with notation on both sides (a replica of the Agnus D-13). Scored for CATB, vn. 1,2; ob. 1,2; b.c. This source has the appearance of a score from the early 1720s. It breaks off in the middle of ‘miserere no—.’ Fragment 2: (Agnus) This begins with an arioso section for solo bass (extending up to e’ with hyperbole at cadences). At the point where the bass is joined by choir (plus vn. 1,2; va.; CATB; b.c. Text: Parce Domine) Zelenka crossed the music through to the point where Agnus dei is repeated (by the choir). Fragment 3: pp. 7–12. Agnus Dei ‘3’ may have been omitted: a ‘de’ (end of Vi-de) is noted where Dona nobis begins, followed by Dona nobis pacem.
Concl. of score: Laus Deo et omnibus Sanctiss. ejus | Pragae 1722 | 20 Decemb. (an indication that late in 1722 Zelenka was in Prague – probably in connection with commissions for the coming festivities for the coronation of Emperor Charles VI and his Empress as King and Queen of Bohemia). In February 1723 an account in the Prague press (Pražské poštovské noviny) reported a performance of a work by Zelenka in the church of S. Salvatore at the Clementinum college. It is possible that the work heard was a test piece composed by Zelenka, and perhaps this Agnus Dei was part of that work. The report (in translation) reads: ‘Last Tuesday, on the final day of Shrovetide, at the normal devotion held by the Reverend Fathers of the order of the Society of Jesus in . . . S. Salvatore in the royal Old City of Prague, an excellent, newly-composed work of Mr Jan Zelenka, a native Czech and chamber musician of His Royal Highness, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, was heard during the Solemn High Mass. [It was performed by] about seventy musicians, and conferred great glory and pomp upon this celebration’. Dated 13 Feb. 1723. Repr. Jirí Berkovec (ed.), Musicalia v Pražském Periodickém Tisku 18 Století, 43.
Zelenka-Dokumentation, 110, Dok. 13; 290, ZWV 37.
In the later, undated ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are listed for [Messa:] No: 35) Agnus (III/Z/13/8). Scoring is given as: ‘à 4 voci co’ VVni, Viola ed Org.’</text>

Cover title (inner wrapper): No: 1 (non-autogr.) | Sanctus et Agnus | ex | Missa ex G.
Labels on outer wrapper correspond with the Hofkirche catalogues of 1765 and c1784.
Schranck No. III | Z. 12. Fach 11. Lage | No: 33) Sanctus et Agnus | à | Capella | Partitura sola | del Sigr Zelencka | Incipit.
Schranck No. III | Lit. Z. 13. Fach 6. Lage | No: 33) Sanctus e Agnus | à 4 voci | à Capella | Partitura sola | del Sigr Zelencka | Incipit.
The incipit given here (and in the Catalogo of c1784) deviates from the score: the fourth note returns to b’.
Zelenka-Dokumentation (309, ZWV 202) lists this as a doubtful, or falsely attributed work.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) scores only are listed for [Messa:] No: 33) Sanctus; Agnus (III/Z/13/6). The scoring for both sections is given as: ‘à 4 voci à Capella’ (even though there is a hint [‘NB: Violin’, p. 6] that the voices were doubled with instruments, as was usual with the a capella repertoire used by the Kapellknaben of Dresden’s Catholic court church.
Zelenka held a number of Sanctus et Agnus settings (many from masses of Palestrina) for use by the Kapellknaben. See the collection of 14 Palestrina Sanctus et Agnus settings listed in the following section of the Catalogo (1765) as being anonymous under the heading ‘Musica senza Nome dell’Autore’: III/27/15. Discussed by Stockigt, ‘Musica senza nome dell’Autore: anonymous works in the Catalogo of the music collection of the Dresden Hofkirche, 1765.’ Studi vivaldiani 7 (2007): 3–52. Cover title: D# (upper left) Nro 7 (Upper right) | Credo à 5 | CC2:A:T:B: | Violini 2 Obe 2 | Travers. 2 Viola | Fagotto [solo?] | Basso Contin: the remainder is illegible.
Neither date nor dedication is found in this badly water-damaged score of a Credo setting, which the Catalogo of 1765 falsely attributed to Zelenka. See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 310, ZWV 216.
Zelenka listed this as an anonymous (‘N:N:’) work in his Inventarium as the seventh of his collection of Credo settings: 7. D#: Credo a 5 CC:2. A.T.B: W. 2, Oboe 2, Traversa 2, Tromba Sola, Viole e Bass=Continu[e]. N:N:’.
The vocal scoring of this Credo, which includes two soprano voices, suggests that the work was acquired by Zelenka following the arrival of the Italian-trained castrati in mid-1730, when two male sopranos became available to sing in the Catholic court church.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score only is listed for [Messa:] No: 32) Credo (III/Z/13/5). There, the scoring is given as: ‘à 4 voci co’ VVni. Viola, 1 Trombe ed Org.’</text>

Missa Fidei is the second of a trio of ‘Ordinary’ Mass settings by Zelenka bearing the titles of the three Theological (or Heavenly) Virtues—Faith (Fides), Hope (Spes), and Charity (Charitas). According to Norbert Schulz Missa Spes (ZWV 5) was dated 1724. Missa Fidei (ZWV 6) was dated by Zelenka ‘25 Novem. 1725’, and Missa Charitatis (ZWV 10) comes from c1727.
Missa Fidei might have been composed for the feast of St Francis Xavier, 1725. A report of the music for the feast in that year given in the Dresden Diarium Missionis (3.12.1725) notes Zelenka’s musical contributions: ‘Cantatum cum assistentia [...] Musicam produxit D. Zelenka’.
On this setting, see Zelenka-Dokumentation, 128, Dok. 34; 286, ZWV 6.
The only wind instruments listed in the collection of the Slaný Piarist college are four trumpets (Tubae Campestres), two horns (Litui), and wooden instruments for funerals (Tubuli lignii pro pompa funebri).
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts are listed for [Messa:] No: 21) Kyrie; Gloria (III/Z/2/4.).</text>

<text>Listed here are the original parts (now missing) for the score of Baliani’s mass (Mus. 2243-D-1), a work revised by Zelenka in 1739 and attributed to him in the Catalogo. These parts were catalogued by SLB as Mus. 2358-D-29. Note that the original scoring of five vocal parts seen in Mus. 2243-D-1) was reduced to four parts: SATB.
Stockigt (‘After Six Weeks’) suggests this could have been one of two masses prepared for Maria Josepha’s churching (Kirchgang) held at Hubertusburg on 1.11.1739 following the birth of Saxon Prince Clemens Wenceslaus (b 28.9.1739).
On Zelenka’s revisions of Balian’s ‘Messa senza Credo a 5 voci’, see Horn (Hkm, 175) and I/B/2/1.
Incipits are given in Zelenka-Dokumentation, 48–9, Nr. 31.
In the Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) parts for the 18th listing of a Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus for this mass (attributed to Zelenka) are listed. (III/Z/12/1). There the scoring given for each section is: ‘à 4 voci co’ VVni. Oboi, Viola ed Org.’</text>

<text>No score or performance materials (parts) for a Kyrie setting exist with this score of the Credo of Missa Judica me, ZWV 2, held by SLUB. The incipit given above from the Catalogo (1765) must be from the now-missing original version of the Kyrie.
Title page: Credo della Messa | Judica me, & discerne Causa mea &c: Psal: 42. | à 4 | Canto Alto Tenore Basso | Violini II, Viole II | Basso Continuo | Di Giovanni Disma | Zelenka Musico di Camara [sic] | di S: M: A Re di Polania | Ellett: di Saxonia.
Thus, the original settings of the Kyrie (and perhaps original settings of the Sanctus, and Agnus) of the first version of Zelenka’s Messa Judica me et discerne causum meam now are missing. On the revised sections of this mass (Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus) see III/Z/12/6.
None of Zelenka‘s usual dedications appear with this score of the Credo.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) the Gloria (No. 16: two scores with parts: III/Z/11/3), Kyrie (No. 17: parts only: III/Z/11/4), Credo (No. 17: score with parts (III/Z/11/4) and Sanctus (No 17: parts only: III/Z/11/4) are listed.
See Remarks for the previous listing (III/Z/10/3).
The elegance of the inscription of the title page of the Credo (Mus. 2358-D-34,2, which RISM states is in the hand of court copyist Lindner) ) suggests that this was a dedication copy.
See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 285, ZWV 2.</text>

Caption (autogr.): A M D G V O H (centre). Concl. of score: Laus deo semper.
The score of this movement (Mus. 2358–D-34a) is the revised version of the Gloria from Zelenka’s Missa Judica me et discerne causum meam (ZWV 2; Mus. 2358–D-34,1,1), 1714. This version (Mus. 2358-D-34a) is dated 2 February 1724, feast of the Purification BVM. On that day, the Dresden Jesuit Diarium entry noted: ‘Habui Cantatum, quod solennius cum Regiis Musicis fecit D. Zelenka’. ([...] Sung Mass to which Zelenka and the royal musicians gave lustre). Originally, Zelenka retained the alto and tenor violas and trombones in the scoring, but later wrote into the margin (p. 3) ‘senza tromboni’. See also his Credo setting also dated 2.2.1724 (Mus. 2358-D-30): III/Z/12/2.
In the later, ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) two scores and one set of parts for the Gloria are listed as [Messa:] No: 16 (III/Z/11/3). NB: Although two scores of this Gloria are shown in the Catalogo of c1784, only one copy is listed this Catalogo of 1765.
Mus. 2358-D-34,1,1: The original version of the Gloria from Missa Judica me et discerne causum meam. Zelenka has the year of composition of this Gloria on the title page to the score in a chronogram embedded in the string of his Latin names: Ioannes LVCas IgnatIVs DIsMas ZeLenka. = I+L+V+C+I+I+V+D+I+M+L = 1+50+5+100+1+1+5+500+1+1000+50: 1714. Note that in 1714 Zelenka used his baptismal name, ‘Lucas’ together with ‘Dismas’ and ‘Ignatius’. Zelenka’s usual dedication formula does not appear in the version of 1714.
See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 115–6, Dok. 23; 289, ZWV 30.
Concordances:
1. CZ-Pak, 1398: Set of 14 performance parts (Kohlhase notes that these were written in the second third of the 18th century: ‘Der Dresdener Hofkirchenkomponist’, 139). Štefan ([1463] Sign. 1398), prov. Sehling. The title is ‘Gloria solenne Divinae praesentiae’. RISM ID no. 550268659. Jana Vojtéšková (Die Zelenka-Überlieferung), considers it probable that Sehling received the copies of this work from the Cistercian monastery at Osek in Northen Bohemia.
2. CZ-Pu (National Archive, Prague), Loreto box ŘK 259–262. A set of parts from the collection of the Loreto in Prague (prov. Taubner). Cover: Jesus Maria Joseph| Gloria in Excelsis | S. Polycarpi Epis. & Martyris | à 4 Vocibus. | Canto, Alto, | Tenore, Basso. | Hubois 2. | Alto Viola. | Tenore Viola | con | Organo. | Pro S: Domo Lauretanae | Sub Num: | 44. I am grateful to Robert Hugo for bringing this source to my attention. This source appears to be a slightly altered version of the Gloria (1714 version: Zelenka’s instrumental introduction of 25 bars in Mus. 2358-D-34a is missing from this Loreto copy).</text>

<text>Mus. 2358-D-7a/7b : Autogr. score of a Missa tota which shows at least three (or more) workings: the original version of 1711, the version of 1712 (some changes to instrumentation), and revisions made either late in c1727 or 1728. These are noted in a lighter ink. A blue-grey wrapper is kept with the score. Parts are missing.
Cover title (autogr.): Nro 21 upper right (this number agrees with the number given in Zelenka’s Inventarium) Missa Sanctae | Caeciliae | à 4 | di Giov: Disma | Zelenka.
The estimated date of the revision is made on the basis of the combination of Zelenka’s notation of the bass clef which changed between late 1728 and early 1729; his use of a stroke (instead of a #) with the figure 4 to indicate that the interval is to be raised in the figures added to the original working at the time of the re-working), and the sign to separate systems of the score, a change first seen in his scores of c1725. These features are best demonstrated in Zelenka’s rewriting of the movement ‘Cum Sanctus Spiritus’ (especially pp. 31–37). Zelenka’s revisions involve transposition of ‘Et unam sanctum’ and changing the original soprano vocal solo to alto (as well as minor alterations to the violin obbligato), and ‘Et vitam’ (Credo); and the addition of settings of Sanctus; Osanna; Agnus Dei.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa’ (c1784) score and parts for the Kyrie, Gloria,Credo, Sanctus and Agnus are listed as [Messa] No: 15), Messa S. Caeciliae (III/Z/11/2). A pencilled note on the back cover of the original wrapper reads: ‘Fach 11. Lage 2 – a reference to the place of storage of this source in the later Catalogo of c1784.
Dedication: Zelenka’s autograph dedication to Friedrich August, I which precedes the score, reads:
Missa S: Caeciliae: Augustissimo Poloniarum Regi FRIDRICO AUGUSTO (praeparante prius ad hoc viam Serenissimo Principe Egone de Fristenberg [Fürstenberg] Saxoniae Locumtenentis Regii, Maximo semper meo Patrono ac Dno) in summa veneratione dedicata et coram eadem Maiestate Regia humillime juxta ac fructuose (si quidem jam dicta Regia Maiestas reflectendo supra tenuem hanc laborem meum ordinarium solax [solacium] meum centum Imperialibus annue gratiosissime augmentavit) producta Dresdae AD: 1712. à Joanne Disma Zelenka Musico Regio.
Zelenka’s autogr. petition to Friedrich August I (written in German) requesting to be sent to France and Itsly which accompanied the score of c1712 is now kept with a copy of the mass made by Franz Hauser in 1826 (‘Missa Sollemnis’) in Vienna (A-Wn, Sign 15773).
Perhaps the indication [–.] under Partitura for the entry of this mass in the Catalogo (1765) implies that in 1765 the parts were either incomplete or a defective set existed.
Mus. 2358-D-8 is a bound score copy of Missa Sanctae Caeciliae in the hand of Philipp Troyer. It is a variant of Mus. 2358-D-7a. The title page (non-autogr.) of Mus. 2358-D-8 reads: Serenissimo ac Potentissimo | Poloniarum Reg | FREDERICO Augusto. | Electori Saxoniae &. | Domino Domino | suo | Clementissimo | humillimó | D. D. D. | subjectissimum obsequentissimum | humillimumque mancipium | Joannes Dismas | Zelenka. Cammer: Musicus. Inner cover: (pencil) Ars Mus. B ??6/ Ars Mus. 49a. A stamp of the Königl. öffentlichen Bibliothek (1806–1917) is seen on the title and opening page of the score ; at the conclusion Mus. B. 258 (pencil) is written.
See Zelenka-Dokumentation, 103, Dok. 2; 285, ZWV 1a; ZWV 1b.
In 1712 several movements were reworked by Zelenka and taken into his sepulchro oratorio of that year: Attendite et videte (ZWV 59).
Concordance:
CZ-Pkřiž, XXX D 77. A copy (provenance Gayer, who copied three of the nine parts) of the Credo from Missa Sanctae Caeciliae in the Prague Kreuzherren collection. Some parts contain the dedication formulae used by Zelenka, but with the omission of the letters P I R, (or similar) which indicate that the work was composed to a commission from the Dresden court: O A M D Dl et B M V H (C and A parts); A M D Gl (viola part); O A M D Gl (organ part). On this source, see Kohlhase, ‘Der Dresdener Hofkirchenkomponist’, 152–3.
A-Wn 15773, copy by Franz Hauser 1826.
NB: In the inventarium of the Slaný Piarist college, listing Nr. 92 (from 1713) is given as ‘Missa S Caeciliae à 9. C.A.T.B. 2 Violinis 2 Clarin: ex B cu[m] Orgo duplici. Authre Dno Joanne Kallaska. I am very grateful to Robert Hugo for bringing this entry to my attention.</text>

The occasion for the composition of this Missa tota is unknown. It is likely that the Kyrie and Gloria of this modestly-scored mass (trumpets, timpani, horns are not included) were composed to be performed on Trinity Sunday in 1736 (Dedication of the Dresden Catholic Hofkirche which, in 1736, fell on 27 May) when the court and many of the royal musicians were in Poland. The Credo, however, was dated by Zelenka later that year at the conclusion of this movement when he wrote: ‘1736 in die OO: SS’ (Feast of All Saints). Thus, it would appear that this mass composed for the Dresden Hofkirche and dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was completed with a setting of the Credo on the feast of All Saints 1736.
Dedications: Concl. part 1 (Kyrie): A M D G B V M OO SS H AA P I R;
Concl. part 2 (Gloria): O A M D G B V M OO SS H AA P I R;
Concl. part 3 (Credo): A M D G B M V OO SS H AA P I R: 1736 in die OO:SS;
Concl.part 5 (Agnus Dei): O A M D G B V M OO SS H AA P I R.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa ’ (c1784) score and parts for the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus are listed as [Messa] No: 14), Messa Votiva (III/Z/11/1).
Caption title (faded): Motetto à Canto Solo con Istromti Del Vivaldi.
This early example has the same provenance as Mus. 2389-E-2 (see III/V/4/10). Wolfgang Horn (Hkm, 145) notes that because of his good relationship with both Vivaldi and Zelenka, Pisendel might have been the intermediary in this acquisition.
Vivaldi’s three sacred settings for solo soprano held in SLUB are discussed by Michael Talbot in The Sacred Vocal Music of Antonio Vivaldi (172–73), where it is proposed that the style of this work suggests that it was composed around 1730. See also the discussion of this setting on pages 298–230. See also Ágústsson (‘The Secular Vocal Collection of Jan Dismas Zelenka’), who suggests this motet was among a group of works commissioned by Zelenka from Vivaldi. 38–9.
Concordance:
CZ-Pak, 1364. Štefan, ([1414] Sign. 1364), prov. Sehling. RISM ID no. 550268609
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa ...’ (c1784) score and parts are listed for the Motetto No. 1 ‘Sum in medio’ by Vivaldi (III/V/6/18). Scoring: ‘à Sopr. Solo co’ VV.ni V.la ed Org.’
Federico Maria Sardelli (Catalogo delle concordanze musicali Vivaldiane, 177) identifies several movements of this setting as being based upon other compositions of Vivaldi.</text>

Parts: Canto; Alto; Tenore; Basso; Continuo (figured).
This Beatus vir setting by Giovanni Battista Vitali might be a copy made from the publication Salmi concerti op. 6 (Bologna, 1677). Zelenka also held a copy of a setting of psalm 110 Confitebor by Vitali which, although unlisted in the Inventarium, appears as the ‘Confitebor’ listing No. 6 in Zelenka’s collection ‘Psalmi varii’ of c1735.
See Stockigt, ‘The Vespers Psalms of Jan Dismas Zelenka’, App. 2, ‘Further Psalm Settings held by Zelenka’.
In the later ‘Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa ...’ (c1784) parts only are listed for the psalm ‘Beatus vir’ by Vital[l]i (III/V/6/17). There, the scoring is given as: ‘à Capella.’
The RISM entry of Vitali’s Beatus vir suggests that it probably originated from the Lutheran court church of the Dresden palace.</text>
